Frequently asked questions
I’m not getting holiday reminders
Check three things: reminders are on in the app’s Settings → Notifications; notifications for Ge’ez are allowed in iOS Settings → Notifications → Ge’ez; and the holiday types you care about (Public, Orthodox, Islamic) are switched on in the app’s Settings. iOS allows each app to schedule up to 64 reminders at a time, so open Ge’ez every few weeks and it will schedule the next ones.
How do I change the language?
Go to Settings in the app and tap the language row. Ge’ez is available in Tigrinya (ትግርኛ), Amharic (አማርኛ), Afaan Oromo and English.
Will my own events move to a new iPhone?
Your events are stored only on your iPhone, not on our servers. They move to a new phone if you set it up from a full backup of the old one (iCloud Backup or a computer). They aren’t synced between devices.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Everything on geezcalendar.app works on Android: today’s date, the calendar, the converter, holidays and fasting days. In Chrome, open the menu and choose Add to Home screen to keep it one tap away.
A holiday date looks wrong
Movable feasts like Fasika are calculated each year, and Islamic holidays depend on the moon sighting, so they can differ by a day from what the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council announces. If a date looks wrong, please tell us on the feedback board and include the holiday and year.
Does Ge’ez cost anything or collect my data?
Ge’ez is free, with no account and no ads. Your events and settings stay on your device. See the privacy policy for details.
