Peraklitos (ጰራቅሊጦስ, from Paraclete, “the Comforter”) is Pentecost: the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles, fifty days after the resurrection. It is one of the major feasts of the Ethiopian and Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo churches.
The end of the fifty days
Peraklitos closes the fifty-day season of joy that begins at Fasika. The next day, the Fast of the Apostles (Tsome Hawaryat) begins and lasts until Hamle 4, and the regular Wednesday and Friday fasts resume.
The date
Peraklitos is the seventh Sunday after Fasika (49 days later), so it moves every year, between late May and mid-June.
